Timang Burung Playback by Sanggar Kirana

Timang Burung Music Sheet

Song Background

This song is inspired by Hikayat Panji Semirang. It evokes the lovers’ tale of Raden Galuh Chendera Kirana and Raden Inu Karpati. Having run away from the royal palace, Chendera Kirana, alone and dejected, takes a breather in the forest. Thinking of her lost love, she plays with her beloved pet bird that can dance.

In the Joget Gamelan Timang Burung, every movement emulates the graceful movement of a bird in flight or at rest, exuding simple joy and serenity.

Damping technique for saron

Damping is a technique to alter the production of sound from instruments such as gamelan, guitar, and even piano. According to Teuku Umar, this basic technique needs to be corrected before venturing into gamelan music. Damping in this context is important in gamelan instruments such as sarons where it needs to be played with a single mallet.

When you hit a note, it will produce a quite long sound. So, you need to stop it before you hit another note so that the previous note will not interfere with the sound produced by the next note.

Method: The left hand is used to slightly hold the previous note and the right hand hit the next note.

Example:

Step 1 : Hit note 5

Step 2 : Hit note 3 while slightly hold note 5

Step 3: Hit note 2 while slightly hold note 3

Step 4: Hit note 5 while slightly hold note 2

This technique can't be applied to the gamelan application in the android or ios phone. It only can be applied to real gamelan.
