Timang Burung Music Sheet

Song Background

This song is inspired by Hikayat Panji Semirang. It evokes the lovers’ tale of Raden Galuh Chendera Kirana and Raden Inu Karpati. Having run away from the royal palace, Chendera Kirana, alone and dejected, takes a breather in the forest. Thinking of her lost love, she plays with her beloved pet bird that can dance.

In the Joget Gamelan Timang Burung, every movement emulates the graceful movement of a bird in flight or at rest, exuding simple joy and serenity.

Applying different techniques in Timang Burung for Saron

The example above shows how to play the first line of Timang Burung applying the double technique. As we know, we need to play twice for every note written on the score. The first hit is onbeat and the second hit is offbeat. The number on the ‘Beat’ row represents the on beat while the ‘&’ symbol represents the offbeat.

IMPORTANT to know that the note before the rest which being highlight with yellow circles needs to be played only once.

SECOND EXAMPLE:

You have to play like:

This second example above shows how to play with the double technique when there are quaver notes (the notes with a line on it). The method to play these parts is you don’t need to double hit the note but just play as usual.

This double technique using saron is very useful to play a traditional song especially for saron peking. Although this technique can be applied to all traditional song, there is some part of the song need to play differently such as the first 2 bars in Topeng:

4th Line
